Choosing a Prom Boutonnière

What’s a boutonniere?

It’s a French word that means a small cluster of flowers a guy wears on the right lapel of his jacket. On Prom night, it’s customary for you to give your date a corsage. It’s the same idea as him giving you a corsage!

Follow these easy guidelines and you can’t go wrong picking the perfect boutonniere for your date!

Plan Ahead:

Start looking at boutonnieres a month before Prom night 2010. This way, you’ll have your pick of the best options. You can shop alone or
shop with him and consider getting a boutonniere that matches your
Prom corsage.

What color boutonniere?

Consider your Prom dress color first. The boutonniere doesn’t have to match perfectly, but always avoid flowers that clash with your Prom dress.

If the matchy-matchy thing isn’t for you, choose a neutral color flower that will compliment your dress and his tux. You can’t go wrong with white!

Which flowers?

Boutonnières are usually made with classic flowers like roses or carnations. Many guys prefer this because – let’s admit it – flowers aren’t exactly macho. But, if you think your guy can pull it off and will like it, don’t hesitate to be adventurous! A purple iris or a bright yellow daisy could be just what he needs to add a pop of color to his oh-so black and white tuxedo.

Price tag?

When you do your Prom planning, budget no less than $15 and up to $50 for a boutonniere depending on where you shop for Prom flowers and which flowers you buy.  Consider shopping online for a boutonniere. It’s fun, easy and saves gas.

Remember: Pick up your boutonniere the afternoon of the Prom, and keep the flowers in your refrigerator until the last minute. This  minimizes chances the flowers wilting.
